T_SOURCE 0 ABSTRACT This Directive concerns the quality of fresh waters and applies to those waters designated by the Member States as needing protection or improvement in order to support fish life. The aim of this Directive is to protect or improve the quality of those running or standing fresh waters which support or which, if pollution were reduced or eliminated, would become capable of supporting fish belonging to: - indigenous species offering a natural diversity, or - species the presence of which is judged desirable for water management purposes by the competent authorities of the Member States The Directive has been amended by: -Directive 91/692/EEC of 23 December 1991 standardizing and rationalizing reports on the implementation of certain Directives relating to the environment further amended by Regulation 1882/2003/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 September 2003 adapting to Council Decision 1999/468/EC (Celex N°31999D0468) the provisions relating to committees which assist the Commission in the exercise of its implementing powers laid down in instruments subject to the procedure referred to in Article 251 of the EC Treaty. -Council Regulation 807/2003/EC of 14 April 2003 adapting to Decision 1999/468/EC the provisions relating to committees which assist the Commission in the exercise of its implementing powers laid down in Council instruments adopted in accordance with the consultation procedure (unanimity). T_SOURCE 0 COMMENT The questionnaire mentionned in the Article 16 of the Directive is outlined in the Commission Decision 92/446/EEC of 27 July 1992 (Celex reference 31992D0446) amended by Decision 95/337/EC of 25 July 1995 (Celex reference 31995D0337) concerning questionnaires relating to directives in the water sector. The Directive 78/659/EEC was repealed by its codified version: Directive 2006/44/EC with effect from its entry into force. To be repealed by the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EEC 13 years after its entry into force.
