General comments
The Protocol (to the Barcelona Convention) for the Prevention of Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by Dumping from Ships and Aircraft was adopted on 16 February 1976 by the Conference of Plenipotentiaries of the Coastal States of the Mediterranean Region for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea, held in Barcelona. The Protocol entered into force on 12 February 1978. The amended Protocol, recorded as "Protocol for the Prevention and Elimination of Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by Dumping from Ships and Aircraft or Incineration at Sea", has not yet entered into force.
