Abstract
This Directive concerns the collection, treatment and discharge of urban waste water and the treatment and discharge of waste water from certain industrial sectors. The objective of the Directive is to protect the environment from the adverse effects of the abovementioned waste water discharges.
From 27/03/1998, the Directive 98/15/EC amends Table 2 of Annex I to Directive 91/271/EEC, that gave rise to problems of interpretation. It clarifies the requirements for discharges from urban waste water treatment plants to sensitive areas which are subject to eutrophication.
The Directive has been also amended by:
-Regulation 1882/2003/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 September 2003 adapting to Council Decision 1999/468/EC (Celex N°31999D0468) the provisions relating to committees which assist the Commission in the exercise of its implementing powers laid down in instruments subject to the procedure referred to in Article 251 of the EC Treaty.
