Description EC Water Reporting Obligation. Reporting under Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) 2008/56/EC for: Art. 8, Art. 9, Art.10; related reporting on geographic areas and regional cooperation (Art. 3/4 & Art.5/6); and metadata regarding data and information used in Art.8 (Art. 19(3)).

Member States shall, in respect of each marine region or subregion concerned, develop and implement a marine strategy for its marine waters, make an initial assessment, determine a set of characteristics for good environmental status and establish a comprehensive set of environmental targets and associated indicators for their marine waters to guide towards achieving good environmental status in the marine environment taking into account the indicative lists of pressures and impacts and characteristics.

Extra information The reporting framework and the reporting content and format, via a set of ‘reporting sheets’, was developed through an informal process starting in May 2011 in the Working Group on Data, Information and Knowledge Exchange (WG DIKE), under the guidance of the Marine Directors. A ‘reporting package’ was endorsed by the Marine Directors in June 2012, comprising the following: a.) The reporting framework concept paper: ‘Approach to reporting for the MSFD’; b.) A set of reporting sheets, addressing geographic aspects, regional cooperation and Articles 8, 9, and 10; c.)As associated guidance document: ‘Guidance for 2012 reporting under the MSFD’.
