Abstract	This Directive lays down environmental quality standards (EQS) for priority substances and certain other pollutants as provided for in Article 16 of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC (WFD), with the aim of achieving good surface water chemical status and in accordance with the provisions and objectives of Article 4 of that Directive.

Comments	Environmental Quality Standards Directive (EQSD) is Daughter Directive of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC. The deadline for transposition of this Directive in Member States is 13/07/2010. However, till then it is recommended that the reporting obligations to be done in accordance with the general requirements settled in Article 12(2) of the EQSD.
